Praying for Migrants and Government

Migrants arrived in Chicagoland in buses similar to this; but transportation within the communities is scarce. Volunteer assistance with transport or housing through Elk Grove Village government community outreach.

In September 2022, the government of the State of Texas began sending migrants seeking asylum in the U.S. to northern cities, including Elk Grove Village, IL, where Kingdom Impact Theater Ministries is based. ​

Since then, KIT Ministries and the Elk Grove Interfaith Council have monitored progress assisting the original 85 migrants, and the hundreds of others in the Chicagoland area, in the process of being physically and spiritually safe and secure while legal matters are resolved. 

Five months later, many matters remained in flux between federal, state and local officials and the individuals awaiting answers. At the February 2023 Interfaith meeting, the Council  resolved there was one path to take to overcome the obstacles and repeated ball of confusion:  Intercessory prayer.  Thus, several pastors participating the council agreed to encourage individual congregations to intervene in prayer.

Here are eight specific items of prayer:

• ​​1. There is COORDINATION between governors, mayors and local communities how to humanely address the needs of migrants. (Jeremiah 29:7, 1 Timothy 2:2)


• 2. The HEARTS of landlords and community residents are not hard -- that they may not allow prejudice or fear to be the primary factor in deciding to lease a residence. (Exodus 22:21)


• 3. FINANCIAL SUPPORT for the basic services needed by the migrants is provided -- whether this comes from legal jobs, community, charitable or individual donations. (Matthew 25:40)


• 4. The process of paperwork, next steps, and time frames is ORGANIZED and consistent between state agencies, non-profits and local workers in order to reduce stress and confusion. (1 Corinthians 14:33)

1. 5. TRANSPORTATION is provided for migrants seeking work, needing shelter, who have work so that lack of transportation keeps those from becoming legal from doing so.


2. 6. VOLUNTEERS from congregations and neighborhoods step forward to offer transportation, rooms to let, conversations for migrants and others without regular residences -- especially in the time of extreme cold.


3. 7. The MENTAL HEALTH of migrants and volunteers is managed through continual communication; the travelers and the domestic workers who try addressing their needs are susceptible to PTSD breakdowns.

5. 8. MIGRANTS and OTHERS WITHOUT PERMANENT RESIDENCE find WARMING CENTERS, food and shelter.
